10 Ways to Boost Your Wellness This Year + Holiday Gift Guide

By December 16, 2022December 26th, 2022No Comments

I was completely overwhelmed when I first started going down the rabbit hole of health. Overnight, I learned that our water is contaminated. Our air is polluted. A lot of the food in the grocery store can barely be considered food. Even the way we function in society is throwing off our natural rhythms putting us at risk for disease and disorder. I couldn’t unlearn what I learned, so I dove deep into finding remedies that worked for me.

My hope is that this guide can help you make conscious choices that improve your life or the lives of the people you are holiday shopping for. I talk about all of these products in episode 271, sharing rituals that surround them and the journeys that led them to be a part of my life. So give that a listen if you want more info on any of these amazing tools.

Otherwise, keep scrolling to check out my favorite things – for everybody and every intention.

1. A Productivity Journal

These journals are truly magic. I credit them with helping me make progress toward my dreams without succumbing to imposter syndrome and with guiding me through the stress and sometimes scary reality of identity shifts. They helped me move through the limiting beliefs that held me back.

The two journals I recommend over and over are the Self Journal by Bestself and Daily Greatness.

The Daily Greatness journal sat on my shelf for a few years before I was ready to branch out from the Best Self Journal. And I am sure glad I did. I was going through a shift, and I felt my old routine wasn’t allowing me to explore new ways of being. So I finally cracked open the Daily Greatness journal and found the guidance I needed. Unlike the 3 month journey that is outlined in The Best Self Journal, The Daily Greatness gives you a full year of lessons, challenges and the search for clarity.

Both of these would be great for someone in your life who has dreams of making their life even better – as big as changing the world or as small as changing their socks.

The Best Self Journal’s beauty is in its simplicity. It cuts out the bullshit, and helps you do the same. It helps you focus on your top three most important tasks each day and prompts you to block off time for them during the day. It has space for gratitude, rituals, tracking your wins and more – all to keep you motivated and your head in the right space.

2. Shakti Mat

I know, I know. Gifting someone a mat with spikes doesn’t look like it  screams “Great for your body & soul!” But, trust me, it does. An acupressure mat stimulates pressure points on your body which can help to improve circulation and relieve pain. There are many benefits of using an acupressure mat, including:

  • Eases muscle tension and promotes relaxation
  • Relieves chronic neck, back and foot pain
  • Reduces menstrual pain
  • Alleviates chronic headaches
  • Helps depression, anxiety and stress
  • Boosts energy levels

While there are many acupressure mats on the market, there is only one that I will back. Shakti Mat uses organically certified cotton and dyes so it’s completely non-toxic to you and the environment, and they pay local craftspeople in India fair wages to make each one by hand. They also donate 10% of their profits to causes important to humanity. So even if you’re not the one who will be unwrapping this gift, you can feel good knowing your purchase is creating positive change.

3. Nuzzie

Have you heard of weighted blankets? Because if you haven’t tried them, you are in for a treat. The idea is that the pressure of it simulates the sensation of being hugged to provide a sense of security and comfort the instant you lay it over you.

My anxiety spiked after I became a mother, and even though I had fallen in love with the idea of them years before, I didn’t get my first weighted blanket until a few months after my son was born. It was incredibly grounding, to the point of being euphoric! The only downside? The first one I bought was not cute and ruined the vibe of the sanctuary I call home.

Then I found Nuzzie. Their Instagram-worthy breathable woven design comes in 10 different colors and in various sizes. And the best part? My anxiety just melts away when I’m wrapped in it.

4. Jolie Shower Head

Water is essential for life. Every cell, tissue and organ in the human body needs water to work properly. The problem is tap water is terrible. You can actually go to ewg.org/tapwater and check which contaminants are in the water where you live. I promise you, it won’t be pretty.

But that isn’t groundbreaking news. Many people have already found a good filter for their drinking water, but what gets overlooked is the fact that they’re showering in the contaminated water and bathing their kids in it. The contaminants we work to take out of drinking water are still getting in through our skin.

The Jolie shower head removes bacteria, chlorine and a bunch of other nasty stuff you don’t want on your skin and in your hair.  The result is healthier skin and hair, and significantly fewer toxins you allow into your sacred body.

5. Bon Charge

Our bodies are meant to sync with the natural cycles of Earth. We are meant to rise with the sun and go to sleep with the moon. And while the blue light the sun emits to tell us it’s time to be awake and alert disappears when the sunsets, we are exposing ourselves to it up until bedtime with the screens that seem to dominate our lives.

But there’s a solution: blue light glasses. I have tried a LOT of these. From cheap pairs on Amazon to $400 pairs that promise miracles. My favorite so far is Bon Charge, and not because they actually have a frame named The Melissa (which is of course the pair I have).

Bon Charge has several colored lenses for specific uses – computer glasses, gaming glasses, light sensitivity glasses and their full blue light blocking glasses to help you prepare for sleep. The lenses are full orange, so it does make your world look a little different. But after I got used to it, it seemed more natural. Without electricity, we’d all be living by candlelight after dark anyways.

These are a great gift for anyone that has trouble sleeping, wants a new way to prioritize their wellness or just gets a kick out of biohacking.

6. Sunshine in a Bottle

In the same way that too much blue light in the evening can ruin your sleep rhythm, not enough sun during the day can invite seasonal depression into your life during the darker half of the year. So my solution is sunshine in a bottle.

The Bottled Sunshine Therapy lamp delivers the benefits of natural light to support your mood, energy and sleep. The coolest part that separates Sunshine in a Bottle from other light therapy lamps is that this one automatically changes color and intensity with the time of day. This allows you to experience bright energizing sunlight during the day, sunset in the evening and candle light at night, just like nature intended! Experience the benefits of extra bright, beautiful sunlight during the day, and enjoy relaxing sunsets and candle light at night.

7. Aquapure

I am very conscious about what I put in my body and what I offer to my friends and family. One thing that makes me feel better is buying organic and doing what I can to remove any pesticides that might still be there due to contamination (or maybe a less than honest organic company).

I used to buy fruit and vegetable washes, but they didn’t give me the confidence that I was feeding my family something pure. They’d taste funny, and they didn’t seem that effective. Then I found the Aquapure. It’s a small device that I put in a bowl of produce with regular tap water and a little salt. The lights blinks blue for a few minutes and when the blinking stops, your produce is pure. You can actually see the impurities floating in the water.

It removes pesticides, bacteria, and other contaminants through electrolysis, and if you’re interested in the nitty gritty science of it, that’s all on their website.

But the thing that matters most to me is that my fruits and veggies, especially my berries, taste so much fresher after I use it, they are safer to eat and I swear they last longer too.

Use code “mindlove” for 10% off every AquaPure purchase!

8. Briiv

Did you know the air in your home is up to 100x more polluted than the air outside, even in the city? Every time you cook, light candles, use cleaning products or play with your pets, you’re releasing pollutants into your home. And this home air pollution can affect your sleep, energy levels and cognitive performance.

When I got my first air filter, I would feel like I was walking through crisp mountain air even though I was living in the heart of LA. After that one broke, I knew I couldn’t live without one. So I researched to find the best, most beautiful and most effective version I could buy without breaking the bank. And I found it in Briiv.

Briiv is the equivalent of bringing in 3000 houseplants to filter the air you breathe condensed into one beautiful centerpiece. It’s gorgeous. Even if it did absolutely nothing, it would look amazing on your dining table. But it does a whole lot of something. It uses the power of plants to clean your air.

This is the perfect gift for anyone who cares about their health and their home aesthetic, and doesn’t have the space for thousands of houseplants.

9. Reflect Orb

Meditation is my favorite part of the day. It is blissful and euphoric, and I’m proud to say that I’ve gone 150 days (and counting) without missing a day. I turned to meditation to help reduce my stress and anxiety because ALL the research shows that it actually changes part of your brain to improve mental and cognitive health. It was a no-brainer to meditate. But that didn’t mean it was easy.

Sitting alone with my thoughts? No thanks. I felt like it was stressing me out more! But I found tools to help me make meditation a consistent practice so I could feel the true scientific benefits. One of the tools that I recommend to everyone who wants to have an effective meditation journey is the Reflect Orb.

The Reflect Orb is a biofeedback ball for meditation. It looks calming and simple – just a grey ball with a light ring on it that glows different colors depending on your state of mind. But it does powerful things. There are sensors where your fingers cradle the ball, and it measures your physiological signals and reflects them back to you so you can learn to control your daily stress.

I’m a big fan of devices that have instant guidance using biofeedback because it helps me connect with my body and learn my own signals in real time. So now I just keep the Reflect Orb on my desk, and a few times throughout the day, I’ll do a little session to find my calm before continuing my day with more peace.

10. Pax

I saved this one for last because it might not be for everyone, but I personally love it. I believe in the healing and spiritual power of cannabis. It has been shown to fight cancers, relieve chronic pain, prevent seizures, reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure and even treat gastrointestinal issues. But my favorite benefits are to treat depression and relieve anxiety.

There are downsides though. If you’re smoking a joint every day, that’s not great for your lungs. Since I use cannabis in part to relieve anxiety, the last thing I wanted was for it to add anxiety about potentially harming my body. That’s why I stick to edibles and the Pax Vaporizer. It’s the cleanest way to actually still smoke flower, if that’s your preferred way of getting the benefits from cannabis.

It’s a totally different cannabis experience. It’s the luxury cannabis experience. Even if you didn’t enjoy smoking cannabis before, you might change your mind after trying the Pax Vaporizer. Sometimes I have to double check that it was on and that I actually got a hit because it’s just so smooth. It doesn’t hurt your throat or lungs, it smells better and there’s nothing lingering on your hands or face.

For the record, I don’t smoke weed to escape life. I do it to enhance my life. I choose to get high to enter a higher state of mind when I feel it could serve me.

So this gift is for the cannabis lovers, or those who are curious about the inspiration, wonder and healing benefits of this plant.
